My Pepperpot, Nancy, has been broody for just over a couple of weeks, as she does eat and drink well when we turf her out the nesting box and is maintaining her condition nicely, we have let her get on with it. Although I decided if she was still broody after 3 weeks we'd put her in the broody cage.

 

Anyway she is still sitting in the nest and grumbling at me when I put her out of it, but today I found an egg that I am 99.9% sure she laid as its very pale in colour (the other two lay brown eggs and although I only had two eggs today including the pale one both of the other girls have been laying well and Emily is due a day off anyway). The shell is rough but otherwise its fine.

 

She is spending more time outside dust bathing and eating etc but her comb is still paler than it is usually.

I thought they had to stop being broody a while before coming into lay again?

Is this normal?

The time taken to start laying after a spell of broodines varies.

She seems to have stopped sitting on he nest now and has been out and about demanding treats and bossing the others about so hopefully back to normal (she must have heard me threaten to put her in the broody cage )
