Girl's not laying

Recommended Posts

I have had my three gorgeous girls (hybrids) for about 5 - 6 weeks now ( I was told by the supplier they were point of lay - around 24 weeks and it was a pretty reputable farm so I believed them) and followed all advice about feeding etc. to the letter. Friends have got their chooks only a week or so ago and they've started laying - but however hard they seem to try my three just don't seem to produce anything ( a few eggy poos in the roosting box is about as close as they've got) - They are not really molting so do I just need to wait?

Any advice gratefully received....

Thanks - I guess I'll just be patient - difficult when another friend e-mailed me this morning with her first egg excitement too and the original mate has now had 18 egss from her 6 chooks in 12 days - never mind mustn't get jelous - my girls are lovely and so friendly when I let them out - they come and sit by me on the bench - just have to imagine when they start laying they'll make up for keeping me waiting.

Thanks again - experienced peeps

Omlet deem POL (point of lay) as anywhere between 16-20 weeks and they can take a month or so to start laying. But when I got an additional hen from a Meadowsweet agent they say POL is 15-20 weeks........

Your girls might be younger than you think. My first 3 girls arrived 12 April. They were all Omlet POL hybrids and you can see from my signature, they laid their first eggs in April, May and June respectively. Just can't be rushed I'm afraid..........

Good luck.
