Very easy custard tart

Recommended Posts

This recipe was given to me by a friend and I thought I would share it because it is very easy and uses up eggs. I even cheated and used a pastry case because I had one that ASDA had sent by mistake.

225g rich sweet shortcrust pastry

400g can condensed milk

300ml hot milk

½ teaspoon salt

½ teaspoon vanilla essence

3 eggs, well-beaten

¼ whole fresh nutmeg

Line a deep 9in tart tin with pastry and prebake

Preheat the oven to 200oC

Put condensed milk, hot milk, salt and vanilla essence in a large bowl and stir to mix. The condensed milk will melt into the hot milk. Add the eggs and mix well. Pour the mixture into the prebaked pastry case and grate the nutmeg over the top of the custard mixture.

Bake in the oven for 10 min then reduce the oven the oven temp to 170oC and bake for a further 30-35 min or until firm.

I LOVE custard Tarts, they are one of my most favourite things (along with brown paper packages tied up with strings... fa, la, la, la, la.... sorry too early for singing really  ).

I have an abundance of eggs from the weekend, as my chicken sitter refused to take the eggs as she said we are friends and she was doing me a favour :eh: Iam going to make something for her, so will probably make her one of these too

I made a custard tart a few weeks go - and dropped the whole lot. I was so upset!

I once did something similar with a chocolate mousse I made in Home Ec at school. I was only about 3 yds from my front door too. I cried buckets.

However, a couple of MONTHS later when the stain was still there I think we were all quietly relieved I HAD dropped it
