cheeky chook
I've had my 3 warrens for nearly 3 weeks. Bought them POL and they delighted me with eggs from day one. After 2 weeks one of them has decided to fall asleep on the spot. She wakes, eats drinks then nods off again. She has some diahorrea occasionally which is brown. I've got Flubenvet on the way ( so thanks for the mixing instructions on another thread). I've also contacted local vet who seems to know nothing about chickens and couldn't offer any help. Cocciodosis has been mentioned but how do I get the help or antibiotics? Please help if you have any ideas. Oh by the way we have a brood of pheasants that visit daily too. Could they be anything to do with it?
jos
I don't really know the answer but would say if she is eating and drinking then there probably isn't too much to worry about. My chickens spend quite alot of the day cat-napping. J
cluckingmad
Some of our girls just randomly decide to go to sleep while wandering round the garden but if you're in anyway worried about her you're best locating a good vet - I found mine by doing a yell.co.uk search for livestock vets near me, but I'm sure an exotics vet may also be able to help... I found to my cost that its better to find a good vet before you need one, otherwise you spend hours on the phone frantically trying to find someone to help (when all you want to do is cuddle and comfort a poorly hen!) sandyhas3chucks
you may as well find adecent vet anyway. You can find one on the rsv website using the advance function antd ticking the poultry box. I wouldn't be happy f one was sleepimg loads. Trouble is they hide illnesses really well. so find that vet before you need one in a hurry.
Egluntyne
The pheasants could have passed something on to her. Worms would be my guess, so you will soon have that under control with the flubenvet. You can buy Coxxoid online if you are sure that the hens have coccidiosis. Have you checked the hens over for signs of lice an d the housing for evidence of redmite?
cheeky chook
I have now checked the housing which was brand new and doesn't have any signs of any infestation. The hens are clean also. The hen in question is still laying although not every day as she was before, so I'm hoping that it is the worms. She is gaping as well ( like a yawn) . Thanks for the help evryone, fingers crossed for Cheeky the hen.
