staceychristie
Poppy has a poor eye. There is no discharge, and I've looked closely with a magnifying glass, and there's no damage or scratches. She's still interested and pecking around the garden. Poo's ok, still stuffing her beak, and she appears healthy otherwise. She keeps closing one eye. She's usually a good patient, and has been ok when I've treated her for egg binding and impacted crop, so she knows the drill if she's separated (peaceful night in our kitchen). Anything I should bathe her eye with? There's no nasal discharge, and she's not yawning (beak not wide open , like a yawn). Thanks, Stacey
Chucky Mama
Cold tea (no milk!) is good but keep a close eye (no pun) on it as eyes can quickly deteriorate. A scratch on the cornea is often only evident once special dye has been put in the eye. Edited September 23, 2009 by Guest
Redwing
I used Brolene eye drops on my chick when it had a bad eye and it worked a treat Needless to say they arent intended or licenced for use on chickens! Don't let on they are for chickens or they wont sell it to you! Mods - if I'm not allowed to recommend 'human' products feel free to moderate! staceychristie
Thanks for the advice. I'll keep her inside the kitchen tonight. She'll have to wear an eye patch I'll update if things get worse/better. Thanks again, Stacey
Sal119
I'm no expert, but one of mine recently had a closed eye for a couple of days and then went off her food. We took her to the vets and was told she had an eye infection (ulcer) so I'd get her there pretty quick if it's no better. Two lots of eye drops and two weeks of Baytril later, Lottie recovered but has only partial sight left in one eye now. Good luck, hope she's better in the morning
staceychristie
GOOD NEWS!!! She's back on form. I used Brolene, and kept her in the kitchen overnight. She's now out in the garden, and I haven't seen her walk around with her eye shut today. I'll keep up the treatment for another day, and hopefully that's it. Thanks for eveyones time and help.
