Cluckinmad
Hi All, I have 3 warrens I have just brought 2 more chickens and introduced them this evening one of the chicken has taken really well with no fuss at all. However the other chicken seems to have taken a disliking to my warrens and has been quite nasty with them . Will they settle down within a couple of days or do I need to think about rehoming the new addition. Any suggestions or guidence will be greatly appreciated. Thanks
Woodcat
viewtopic.php?f=42&t=25886 This is a good topic for how to do intros. You need to be very careful just putting them together because it can turn very nasty very quickly and you could end up with casualties. Ideally you need to be able to keep them apart but within sight of each other for about a week and then try free ranging them together and onece they are no longer attacking them free ranging then try and shut them in together. Chickens can be nasty little so and sos and you have to be very careful adding new ones.
Ain't Nobody Here
I'm right in the middle of introducing 2 new girls to my existing 3. It was all going well here but then all turned nasty here. My tip would be take it ridiculously slowly, as slowly as you possibly can. Ain't Nobody Here
I'm sure you won't need to take them back . You really just need to give them time to get used to each other. There are other techniques you can use so let us know if you're still having difficulties in a couple of weeks .
Clur
It's worth noting that introductions can take up to 6 weeks. I've just been through intros and found it helpful to put them all in the eglu at night but separate them (but so they could still see each other) in the run and then I then started to let them free-range under supervision. They will have some spats to sort out the pecking order, but make sure it doesn't get too vicious as if there's any blood you'd have to separate the affected hen. Cluckinmad
Thanks for the advice again i left them apart last night but let them still see each other and this morning i was feeling brave so i thought id let them run around free range in the garden and they seem to be fine with each other.but ill keep a close eye on them just incase it does get abit out of hand but after only the second day together there fine at the moment anyway Many Thanks
