Strange Eggs

Recommended Posts

Hi All

I posted several days ago about one of my Colombian Blacktails laying odd eggs in the chicken section but sadly not many replies!

Am getting more worried about her each day - her eggs are sometimes a long oval shape but they always have a 'spot' on now which seems a bit weak. This spot seems to have cracks coming from it, although I'm not sure that the others aren't pecking at it?

I have a photo and wonder if anyone can help - please!!!!!

I'm not sure how to add photos but here goes........

Any help please? She seems fine in herself - had worms a couple of weeks ago but all clear now.

Thanks

Sarah

Is it one of the chickens that you have had since Jan 08? If so, it could just be age related. Shell quality does deteriorate with age. The limestone flour/calcium may help. If she hasn't stopped laying for a moult yet you may find they improve again once she comes back into lay.

Thanks Snowy!

Yes it is one of the 'older' girls. Time has gone so quickly I forget that she is getting older. She doesn't normally moult much and doesn't usually stop laying, but she is moulting around her neck at the moment and having the odd day where she doesn't lay.

The replies have put my mind at ease anyway - just worry about them (her) too much sometimes!

Thanks again.

Sarah

I get ones like that from my older girls sometimes, or from the ex-batts. all you can do is give limestone powder and codliver oil, or there is zolcal d to put in the water if you want which does the same thing.

She could just be reaching the "Henopause" though :? .

One of my ex batts lays eggs like that too, and even though I am giving the girls limestone flour and cod liver oil it doesn't seem to do the trick with her, but my other ex batts (and other girls) are fine.

I just think that my little Ace is reaching the end of her laying life, which is fine by me, the baby girl deserves a retirement :D
