She seems to be permanently puffed up and not as bosterious and she seems to of lost her appetite. Can anyone help as to what might be the problem. juttley72 Posted October 4, 2009 Author Share Posted October 4, 2009 Hi the chickens were bought around the 26th august and were point of lay. I have had no eggs as yet. The comb isn't very big. chelsea Posted October 8, 2009 Share Posted October 8, 2009 It may possibly be a soft shelled egg on it's way At the beginning of laying they are more frequent as the hen gets into a laying pattern. A "softie" can make them appear in a daze/trance almost, hunched, not interested in food or water, standing still. Jools Posted October 8, 2009 Share Posted October 8, 2009 If her crop is full in the morning before she has eaten, then she probably has a blockage as it should be empty. Did it feel hard or soft? TBH, if you don't know what you're doing (no offence intended!!!!), I'd get a vet to take a look at her if it's a crop problem as you can do more harm than good by attempting to clear it yourself.
