Wheezy cuckoo maran help please

Recommended Posts

Hello,

I have a young cuckoo marran who has been wheezy for a few weeks now. You can hear her wheezing when walking, eating and drinking especially. Its hard to describe but sort of sounds like one of her nostrils are blocked up. or she has asthma. Not sneezing too much.

Otherwise she is eating and drinking normally and appears to be growing okay (only about 11 weeks). I took her to the vet and she has had a 7 day course of Baytril but no improvement. I give her poultry spice and she has been wormed. I have 5 other hens of differnt ages and breeds and they are all okay.

Any advice please. We are ne to chicken keeping anf love it ! Just looking forward to that first egg !eggcream!:D

Thank you

I am using straw and woodshavings. Actually the woodshavings were only introduced some weeks ago...could it be she has an allergy ? Would the others not also have it though. Should I take it out and see if she improves ?

I like to use the woodshavings at it makes it easier to clean and sort of nicer for them. Is there an alternative at all ?

Thanks

A lot of us use hemcore, aubiose or easy bed which are all horse beddings, as they don't have the dust that you can get from straw and wood shavings.

It could be that your girl has an allergy. One of my hybrids has sneezed for months, she absolutely fine lays well is very very perky and lively but she just has an allergy.
