i am so annoyed with myself, and what do you use for water

i had emptied teh ducks water this morning when i got a phone call of my mum to nip out, so instead of putting the half cleaned sandpit in (one of them in a shape of a totoise).

i gave them a bucket a b and q one and filled with water so they could still dip heads etc.

ive come home to find my smallest one had only jumped into the bucket and couldnt get out, she is ok ive got her out, :oops::oops::cry: she in the house and drying of.

 

im so annoyed upset with my self, what do others use? :cry:

i will put there little hippo back in after , what do others use instead

With ducks its as long as they have some water ie it doesnt have to be mega deep just enough to sit on or even just dunk their heads under. Deep ponds are not necessary. A shallow washing up bowl would do!

I can't take a photo at the moment as we're on holiday......

 

We have a water butt on a stand which we fill with water from the hose pipe as the run isn't near the house. We attatched a short length of hose-pipe onto the tap on the water butt - the other end is attached to the metal pipe you can see on the drinker. It has a ball valve connected inside (the red ball you can see) which allows more water to fill the drinker as it empties. The cage over the top stops the ducks from swimming in the water!

 

Although the water constantly refills and they won't be without water you will find they still manage to make a mess of it with food off their bills so I tip it over and empty it and use a hand brush to get bits out - then the water fills up from the butt again. You just need to check the water level in the butt.

 

You could just use it as a drinker and fill it up all the time.
