4m x 3m Omlet pen, cube, new auto door still boxed and coop light

Hi all

 

I'm sure this has been asked loads but I can't see any posts on it.

 

Peggy my 2 year old gingernut is today very quiet and lathargic and has a big swollen chest. It's not hard to the touch and isn't a big ball, just feels like she has a water balloon under her feathers. She's drinking ok, walking about slowly and eating a bit.

 

Any ideas/advice?

Oh thanks! Could be sour crop but I haven't sniffed her...

 

I wonder if there is something other than forcing vommit that I can do??

You could ask a vet to do it. The thread probably says about giving them cooked apple. I think that if its infected then you really need to empty it for your actions to be effective. I haven't had personal experience with my chooks.

I had suspected sour crop with Milly last week. I gently tipped her up and loads of water came pouring out. No smell though. I had to do it again in the evening and more came out.

 

The next day I gave her Daktarin Oral gel (a blob into her beak 3 times a day) and bio-yogurt with some Avipro and apple cider vinegar syringed onto her beak.

 

Maybe I was lucky but within a day she was right as rain.

Ok thanks... I'll try turning her upside down tomorrow and see how she takes it and what happens. I'll get some bio live also, they have it most days but haven't for a couple...

Do be careful tipping her up . I read on here after I'd done it that they can drown if you do it wrong . I think very gently and not upsidedown is the key - I only tipped Milly forward very slightly and the liquid came out.

I didn't tip her in the end... Her chest was much reduced yesterday morning and she got happier throughout the day. By bed time she was eating yoghurt and scratching about happily with no swelling.

 

Shall I just keep an eye on her?
