Happy chickens!
I have noticed my girls lay much better if they get a 'mash' in the evening. I always thought they liked to eat during the day, so their food is always topped up when I let them out in the morning. In the evening they often get a mash of any leftovers (not too many in our house!) bokashi, cod liver oil and limestone flour as one of them lays thin shelled eggs, with a couple of cupfuls of their pellets all softened with hot water. When I go away egg productin always goes down as my egg sitters don't do the mash - even though they still have a good supply of pellets. Surely a bit of bokashi etc shouldn't make much difference? They do like to tuck in as if they are half starved though!
Patricia W
they don't like change. My egg production has always gone down when we've had sitters. So it may be the extra food, but it could be they miss you! Tricia
