Walks with Charlie is one thing I really look forward to... :D:D

Our friend's pup was a black labrador. He had a play area in the garden, that was kept bolted to stop him escaping, but it seems someone came and opened it and took him. They left his collar behind.

He was microchipped, but I guess people who steal pups won't take them anywhere near a vet, knowing a chip could be found and a stolen dog would have been reported... the breeder said gundogs are often stolen to be sent to the middle east to work as gun dogs... We had planned to let Charlie have access to a fenced off area of the garden when we are not home, which he could access through a dog flap, so he could choose whether to be in or out, but after considering, unless we can make a strong fenced roofed and solidly padlocked area, I wouldn't feel like taking a chance...

The trouble is that vets don't routinely scan animals when you take them in. I do hope your friend gets the pup back.

I take it they've contacted all the petlost people. Sending leaflets around to as many vets might help as well. Contact some of the dog magazines also. You never know.
