Christian
Hello Jac and welcome to the forum. As they are new to laying, it could be one duck laying or a couple When they first start, they are a bit erratic, so more than likely it is one duck. The only way to know for sure is to catch them at it or find 4 eggs in the nest

Guest
Hi You may find as the days get shorter(lack of sunshine) that egg production will drop off, whereas an egg per day per duck will become the norm for the sunnier days, during winter my 5 ducks I sometimes only got 3 or 4 eggs per week during middle of winter. Mind you its quite hard to eat so many eggs! Good luck indie
ducks_rulecats
hi indie thanks for the info, would it then help if they had a daylight light in their house , to aid production ? jac
Lesley
I personally don't think it is fair to use extra light to aid egg production in either hens or ducks - it is nature's way of giving them a break from the arduous job of laying. If they have only just reached POL then they will take a while to settle down and then ducks lay more through the winter than hens.
Guest
hi indiethanks for the info, would it then help if they had a daylight light in their house , to aid production ? jac Hi Jac Oh keep them au naturelle...otherwise you will exhaust the poor things! Let them come into lay naturally at their own pace. I still got eggs off my ducks in the winter just not as many as the summer months but enough to get by on. Good luck be patient it will happen indie
rachel2390
Hi Jac, My 2 Aylesburys were nearly 30 weeks old before they started laying on a regular basis and I have only had them since mid May this year. However, once they started I have had 2 eggs on a daily basis and even though the days are starting to grow a lot shorter I am still getting 2 a day at the moment, but am expecting this to start falling off over the coming weeks. I know it is very frustrating waiting for that first egg!! I thought I had 2 drakes to begin with because they were late starters!! All the best, Rachel
ducks_rulecats
thanks everyone for your advice just to add i was just wondering if the extra light worked at all not that iwas planning to used it. my ducks love going to bed for they sleep just like we do , and they take themselves and no longer need me to read to them any more jac
Lesley
Glad to hear you weren't considering extra light for your ducks - I'm sure they'll soon start laying - don't forget to come back and tell us will you?
