Sal119
Well after her last really bad ulcerated eye couple of months ago, Lottie recovered well after weeks of Baytril, eye drops and TLC. Her eye was left quite badly scarred although she was fine. Then a couple of weeks ago she started to close it again. The vet put her back on the Baytril and eye drops and said because the tissue around the eye had been badly damaged from the ulcer, it would always be weaker and probably susceptible to infection more easily. This time the infection is not half as bad but is taking a while to clear up (been back to vets 3 times for checks). Just wondered if anyone else has had this recurring problem before? Is there anything I can give her to build her up a bit? The first time around the vet did mention removing the eye (which seemed a bit drastic at the time), but if it's going to keep causing her problems ......? She's fine in herself, eating well and everything now, but she never looks quite as healthy as our other one.
Redwing
I have a young Sultan who has had an eye problem two or three times now, when it flares up I use Brolene eye drops to clear it up (**not licenced for poultry**) they start to work within about half an hour I also cut away the long feathers from around its eye and bed it on dust extracted wood shavings to ease the problem - I am hoping when it gets older and goes outside the problem will go
Egluntyne
Optrex Infected Eye Drops work well too. *Not licensed for use in poultry in UK. Why not bathe the eye with cold tea ( no milk, no sugar) until you can get hold of something? Very soothing and mildly antiseptic.
Sal119
Thank you both. She's on Baytril and eye drops at the moment but just wondering if there was anything we could do to prevent future infections. Think it's going to be an ongoing problem with Lottie One infection clears up and a couple of months later another one starts. I've read about "pick me up's" and stuff you can put in their water to keep them healthy? Wondered if anyone could recommend a good one?
