bellekatz
Helen - how did Angus get on at the Yorkshire show yesteday??
Yorkshire Pudding
Very well thanks Jayne! He was placed second of five in his open class (AOC male MC kitten), and got two seconds and a third in his side classes. We were very pleased with him getting second in the open because he is high white, and the judge apparently really doesn't like high white. The winning cat was a lovely solid blue boy, a little older and larger than Angus. He dealt with all the attention very well indeed and was generally very much admired, by breeders and visitors alike. He spent most of the afternoon lounging on my lap snoozing! Lesley
Well done - any photos? I think it's a shame when judges are singular and so obviously biased
Yorkshire Pudding
Sorry, I didn't take any photos of the show . What with show kit, grooming gear for titivating his coat and a very heavy cat in a large cat box, I forgot to pack my camera and so did everyone else. There are photos posted online by others but none of him so far - I'll post a link if any appear. Also we took some of him at home after he was groomed for the show so I may be able to post some of those. The judges' critiques will also appear online so I will be able to find out what they really thought of him - the only negative comment overheard all day was 'probably a little too much white'. Other judges who know his breeder but weren't judging his classes came along later and gave him the once-over, and were generally very approving of him. He is a bit out of proportion at the moment - heavy at the back end, his tail and coat are growing madly at the minute but his head has yet to catch up, so it will be interesting to see how he changes over the next few months. I think it's a shame when judges are singular and so obviously biased I see what you mean, and whilst they have to compare each cat to the breed standard, there will always be an element of personal preference involved too - two years ago he wouldn't even have been admitted to show as he is over one third white. That rule was only changed recently. Most important to me was that he wasn't unduly stressed or upset by the experience - he enjoyed all the fuss! bellekatz
Helen, the first two of his show critiques are available here: http://www.gccfcats.org/JudgeReports09/yorkshire09reports.html#dbutters Very complimentary
Yorkshire Pudding
Thanks Jayne, I had been looking on CatFancy and hadn't seen them yet. They are complimentary, aren't they? I was very pleased that he was 'beautifully presented' - he'd had the bath to end all baths the day before and if I say so myself he looked gobsmacking!
