Biker Betty
Hello all I've changed the girls feed to the posh ex batt feed from allen and page. Its in pellet form and they are completely used to eating pelets. They just don't like it and won't eat it. They're not off their food - will eat anything else just not that. I've even tried disguising it by making it into a mash and they won't eat that either! Anyone had any experience of tantrums like this? Any tips to get them to eat it? Chook n Boo Mum
When they are hungry they will eat it..............withhold all other treats in the meantime Did you mix some of the new food in with the old so they got used to it gradually.... it may be worth getting a small bag of their old stuff if you really want to move on to the posh stuff, failing that you'll be going back to the old stuff methinks My lot have accepted all changes without too much hassle with the "mix it" routine towards the end of the old pack. Good luck Sha x
Biker Betty
Yes I did that - they managed to pick out the old feed from the new!! I am running out of old feed now and the first cahnce I'll have to get some will be Weds - so they're bound to eat it before then I guess! I have made them a porridge with it for the morning hoping that they'll be starving by then and won't notice.
sparkysmum
I'm afraid my ladies wouldn't touch it either, under any guise.
Chook n Boo Mum
TBH my girls produced more softies on this food than not, so it got the elbow from me after 3 sacks.......I felt that was a fair chance though it also coincided with a full moult in 4 of them & mini-moults for the others and the batties probably getting to the end of their laying careers, so maybe not so fair The batties have almost fully feathered up though, so there was some advantage in using it for that short period. They are on the A&P Free Range Layers Pellets now & very happy they are too, still a few softies, but not so many Sha x
Biker Betty
Yeah I've switched because of lack of eggs for a while now - and those that are laid are normally softies - and the fact that they've just started a bit of a moult now. So I thought I'd give it a go. They may be better with crumb I guess? Though they eat pellets, it's not their favourite. I think I may well switch back to normal if I don't get any joy though. Thanks for your advice.
Chook n Boo Mum
If they prefer crumb, why not try blitzing some in a blender, not a long term solution, but may work until they get used to the pellets...just a daft idea which popped into my addled brain Sha x
Biker Betty
That is a good idea actually! I'm going to give that a go tonight. I have given them a porridge version this morning which they have eaten a bit of - still not impressed though! Going to order some normal food for them today anyway.
