quirkas
We have been offered 3 Pekins for our purple Eglu (recently vacated by Milly 7 years old) not owned them before they seem quite playful what would they like in the run? I usually add in a section of a bale of straw and a log but what else?.
Janty
Go for it. Pekins are feisty, little creatures that are so entertaining. I have five and wouldn't be without them. I can't say they are the prettiest of adolescents but they are beautiful when fully grown and so great to watch. You won't regret it. If you are planning to introduce them to larger girls in the future the intros have to be taken very slowly (I nearly had a disaster in the early days) but then they hold their own. My original three now live with my big girls. They moved into the big girls' cube one day and took over from there.
Redwing
Is it an Eglu run or a built run? Perches are an option if you have the height, Ikea wooden shoe racks seem to go down well as platforms too The one thing that nearly all my chickens have access to at some point during the day is a tyre, we fill them with ash and soil as dustbaths and they like to sit around the edge and jump on and off them - they are always a big hit They do fit in an extended Eglu run and my bantams love theirs
quirkas
Thanks for the replies, it is an eglu with usual run but I am looking to extend it with the Omlet wire when we are home and then they will be allowed in the garden for periods when the dog is excluded. I am intrigued by the tyre and shoe rack and will look into both. I have also ordered a cube with extended run for some Speckledys but was not expecting them to mix. Janty
I got my tyre from a local farm shop where I buy the chicken food. They had a load of old tractor tyres lying about so I asked for one. Worth a try if there's something similar in your area.
Chook n Boo Mum
Ask at your local garage, if they change tyres they'll have old ones perfect for dustbaths & if they don't have to pay to have it removed all the better.....big companies don't allow this as every tyre is accounted for I've just recently got some Pekins and am hook, line & sinker besotted by them, they are small in size but big in attitude & character....just wish the eldest one would start laying again after her aborted broody session Good luck with your newbies, Sha x
chick wiggle
Go to your local tip, they usually have an old tyre section, thats where i got mine from, for free!
