Twiglet
Not posted for a while so Hi to anyone I know. I added to my "flock" this summer and now have 2 Barred Plymouth Rock girls which I bought from the folks at the Wernlas Collection. One of them (Mabel) is laying very regularly and started at about 30 weeks. They are both now about 37-38 weeks However, Milly doesn't seem anywhere near - no crouching and after speaking with the nice lady at Wernlas who told me how to "feel" them to test how ready they were, no other signs. Surprisingly she is much bigger in body size than Mabel but I don't feed them many treats and they all eat the same food. Has anyone else had experience of this with pure breeds or does anyone know if she will just be late coming on or may never lay! Just puzzled and could do with more eggs! Both my oldie's seem to have retired from laying so soon.
Daphne
Its probably just one of those things, pure breeds can start at any time and right now the days are shorter so you're probably going to have to wait till Spring for that elusive first egg (tho you never know she might surprise you)! It is also possible she is a 'dud', sometimes these things happen and a hen never lays. Finally - given you said Milly is much bigger....is there any chance she be a he? Twiglet
I thought maybe I might have to wait until spring - although it seems silly as they are both the same age. Definitely not a he I'm glad to say. Playing a waiting game then!!!!
CluckyBucks
Sounds like the waiting game seems the only option Either that or she just doesnt want to. Is she moulting? because this can affect laying. xx xx
