Cleaned out quail run today. (I keep them in a rabbit hutch and run). Whilst putting them back in one of the male quail soared out of the run and onto next doors garage roof I got the ladder and climbed up but he went again. It was a bit of a surprise as they had got very calm when I opened the run but I think he'd just got upset being in the pet carrier whilst I cleaned.

They've never soared anything like that in the almost two years we've been keeping them. Bit sad to lose him but it does improve the proportion of males to females (now 1:5).

That happened with one of mine too last year

 

The last 2 were in a hutch at the top of the garden last week and our 3 year old cousin came round, I didn't see him do it or go near, but they were gone and the door was unlocked so presume it must have been.
