Aubiose v hemcore v bark chips

Recommended Posts

i use shredded paper in the nest box...but have run out and our shredder has broken...hopefully MIL will bring some tomorrow...but if not I will use straw...haven't used it before although get it loose from a local tack place for my bunny...because I thought it might have mites in it...having said that maybe I'm getting confused with hay

Having read the above posts it looks like I can use Easibed in the Eglu run...which is covered with both the standard shade that came with it and a winter shade I bought from a friend? I must rake out all the old wood cobbles as they've become a tad smelly

Hello! I promised an update. I've just done the weekly clean/run poo pick and can say it's so much easier with Easibed compared to chippings as the Easibed is so much lighter to manouvre.

With the terrible down pours and driving rain on Friday night some rain had got into the front of the run, but the Easibed was not clumped or anything - just a slightly different colour from being dampened. The chippings would've been messy.

I was able to pull all of it to one end of the run and use a hoe to spread it out again, poo picking as I went. I chucked in a few handfuls of pellets when I was giving it an aerating after the poo picking to give the girls something to scratch about for. To be honest I did not level it all out but left most of it at the end the girls like to kick it all from - so I expect it to be levelled out for me at the end of the day by my feathery excavators.

Only thing - Grace went potty, she was quite distressed - boking like mad - obviously did not like me doing it. I suspect it was more of an upheaval for her than when I was poo picking the chippings. I was probably not so thorough with the chipping as 1 - chippings don't show the poo as much as Easibed and 2 - it was so much harder to do.

I'm a convert!

ive used shredded paper from day one in the nest box with no problems, my new hens seem to want to lay in the cat box at the other end of the wir though :D , started using hemcore last week and got to say its brilliant, smells lovely, bloke i brought it from did say that a lot of hemcore has been returned as it has a lot of fibre in and they are sorting it out.
