Pro - Does anyone else's nest boxes get soaked in rain?

Scarlet laid an egg yesterday and the shell was smeared with blood, there was quite alot i checked her over and there was no blood anywhere else on her and she seem healthy. today she laid another one, it wasn't as much blood as yesterday, but i'm just wondering what i should do

She might have ruptured a small blood vessel. I wouldn't worry too much about her, a bit of blood goes a very long way, especially when mixed with 'hen juice' to help get the egg out.

 

Just keep an eye on her and maybe try to put her off lay for a few days by feeding more treats and less layers pellets?

thank you, if it happens tomorrow i'll try giving her more treats, which i'm sure she'll love

This has happened to a couple of my girls when they first start laying, as they are "stretching" , and the eggs are getting larger. Once everything settles down, they should be fine, just keep checking that her vent is still intact and not torn.
