Incubator query

Recommended Posts

I am planning to buy an incubator, if i get a 20 egg one for example do i have to add 20 eggs to it or can it take up to 20 eggs, so i could add just 6 to start with but go up to 20 sometime in the future?

I hope you understood that.

Also what incubators do you recommend, semi or fully automatic, i dont mind. What do you use and what ones wouldnt you be without now?

thanks

Gill

Have a look at this thread with similar questions :D

Its best to get the right capacity as if you only set 6 in a 20 egg incy it wont hold the heat aswell as there is less to heat up inside, and any fluctuations in temperature would be felt more because they'd lose heat more rapidly in a larger incy.

I have an R-Com pro20 - it takes up to 24 normal hen size eggs. I used it with only 12 eggs and it held temp and humidity perfectly - never more than 1 degree away from the setting in the whole 3 weeks. This incy does everything for you, you simply fill the water container (it bleeps if you do not refill it as well when needed), then you press the hen programme and off it goes and does everything for you, even changing the cycle for the last 3 days without you having to do it.

From 12 eggs all were fertile and 11 successfully hatched - I now have 11 health 6½ week olds in the garden.

With a good incy there is no issue that you have to fill it up for it to work well.
