docsquid
Can you be immune to flu? as far as i am aware (and people say you would know you had flu) i have never had flu in 45 yrs ! my mum is 80 and has never had it or chickenpox surprisingly though being a teacher for years lol No, you can't be naturally immune specifically to flu, but sometimes viruses cause a mild illness that you don't notice or recognise and this builds your immunity just like the more serious version. If your antibodies were checked, you would probably show you have had flu in the past. Recent research shows many more children have had swine flu than actually became ill in the last few months. You can have an immune system that is naturally good at dealing with all kinds of viral threats through non-specific mechanisms, and maybe your family are lucky enough to have that! Alis girls
Hope you are ok Lydia and not too sore. I had a nap this pm and woke to find cat sitting on my now red sore arm. Incidentally over 80's need 4 swin flu vacc - 2 one day and 2 a month later. Our nurse doing them hopes there wont be many of them. As Docsquid said its didficult to diagnose. YS has been off with chesty cough and ear pain all week. Both OH and i have sore throas but dont think its SF as son didnt have a temp or very mild. Our Gp thought he looked well Maybe the fact he never stops rabbiting. Anyway wish everyone having jab well and intersted to here how everyone has been
Lydia
My arm isn't really that painful. I can feel where I had the jab but it's not aching at all (yet). I now have 2 bruises in a perfect line on my arm (one from the ordinary flu jab 2 weeks ago) and they look like eyes so I'm thinking of drawing a nose and mouth under them We had fun and games when I asked to make an appointment for the booster jab though. I appreciate that it's not a usual request but the receptionist told me I "was doing her head in" and stomped off to talk to a colleague who exclaimed "What does she want that for?" And then proceeded to berate the poor nurse who'd just given me the jab accusing her of giving false information to patients. This was in full view and earshot of myself and a waiting room full of patients. I set my face to extremely polite, stood there and smiled until they begrudgingly gave me a second appointment. Not until 23 Dec but at least I got one. Now we've got to try and get hubby done because he lives with me. Wish me luck...
docsquid
Now we've got to try and get hubby done because he lives with me. Wish me luck... Yes, that will be my next struggle too! I've got my swine flu jab next Wednesday (at last). Some surgeries are also immunising "carers" of people with CF. Ours are doing parents of children with CF but not partners of adult CF patients. I think DH should have it because he goes out and meets people more than I do and could bring swine flu home. As it is, I'm having to miss our neighbour's funeral today to avoid catching it. Thanks thats interesting , i used to get bad tonsilitus but have never been laid up in bed for anything but sickness bugs, must be made of tough stuff lol funny about the mild illness though as both me and hubby have had sore throats and stuffy heads that i was sure was a cold coming but came to nothing.
