welovemarmite
When we moved into our house there was a blackwell composter - you know the standard kind that look a bit like darleks. Well now with the chickens we are needing more composting area! Debating whether to have two, or one much bigger one. Have seen a 600 litre cube shaped one that will fit. (think ours is either 220 or 330). Or hubbie has just started getting into wood work so could get him to build me some wooden ones that fit into the gap we have. Never had wooden compost bins before. Anything special he would need to know in order to build one?? Also what do you cover them with?? Havent sorted my sig block yet
Redwing
I'd say make the gaps between planks quite small A cover could be made of wood and hinged (or part of it hinged) or maybe a bit of carpet (which would keep heat in and speed up the process) You could line the inside to protect the wood but make lots of air slits in the lining Make sure you can get the compost out so a hatch in the front or removable planks would be a good idea
redhotchick
I wouldn't go for one big one, better to have more than one on the go at a time. I have one Dalek type. It does me as I only have 2 chickens, a suburban garden and 10m² of raised beds for vegetable growing. Two Daleks would be useful, so one could be left to mature whilst the next one was filling. welovemarmite
Think we may end up with custom built (by hubbie) wooden ones. I have a stretch down the side of a fence which could take the bins. My garden isn't very big and we have four chickens but the compost bin always seems full!!
