Pikey
I thought that cockerels only started crowing when it started getting light. Cole started at 5 this morning when it was totally dark . Normally he starts about 7am which is fine as its when I normally get up....I then bring him into the house where he crows away to his hearts content in the porch. He has been up a bit earlier when the next door neighbour goes outside to have an early morning ciggie and his security light goes on......but today def 100% it was dark...even needed a torch to see my way around the garden. I know I will have to change this routine in the summer but I though if kept in the dark they would be ok. The big girls were making a bit of noise to annouce they laid an egg......would that have started him off or have I missed something
Redwing
Some do crow in the dark sadly, I have three cockerels in my garden one of which crows throughout the night and one that starts at about 4am, the last is lazy and doesnt get going till 9am I only noticed as during the last month I have had a spate of odd waking hours, up early or bed late for one reason or another At the moment its ok as my garden is big so they are far from the house and most people have windows closed at this time of year but it will be a major problem in the summer so I will move them to my field during this time One will crow even if in a box under the stairs
BeckyBoo
One will crow even if in a box under the stairs Poor boy - probably yelling "LET ME OUT!!" Yes, my last boy crowed til 11pm, then if anything disturbed him in the night he crowed and then from about 4am, another reason he had to go - it was a lovely sound tho! beulah59
A neighbour's cock crows at any time of day or night, confused by the street lighting perhaps?

Pikey
One will crow even if in a box under the stairs Thats plan b for the summer out the window then! My garden backs onto public ground and a woods so can't be street light.......could just be the bigs girl's noise that disturbs him.....garden small but could move him away from them. Fingers crossed this morning was just a one off esp as Saturday 2morrow
Redwing
You might be lucky, I think that mine is especially gobby I must add that we didnt keep him in for that reason, he had been bathed and was drying in the house overnight, cue me running down the garden with the box at 4am like it was a hand granade with a missing pin

I'd eventually love to get a cockerel but I think even our tolerant neighbours might draw the line.
