Parsley
I know that some of you already have the new Delia Happy Christmas book so am hoping for some help. My copy arrived today and I want to do the Italian Chocolate Nut Christmas Cake (page 38) as I do not like traditional cake and it would be nice to make something I could eat for a change. However, the recipe has walnuts in and my husband hates the flavour of these! Can anyone suggest a substitution as I am not a very experienced cook. I wondered about pecan nuts? Otherwise I shall just use walnuts and tell him they are pecans! I love the book, have the original but this is worth getting, especially as the recipes now have ready made pastry suggested as an alternative to battling with making my own... Am now starting to clear out the freezer ready for a cook fest over the next few weeks!
Guest
i don't have the book but pecans seem a logical and tasty substitute to me
chickencam
If he doesn't like walnuts, does he like pecans because they are quite similar, if he does then they would be a great substitute. Otherwise most nuts would probably work.
Lesley
Toasted hazelnuts would be a good substitute.......
Parsley
Thank you for your help, I made the cake with pecans instead of the walnuts. I have not tried it yet but the cake mixture was delicious and it filled the kitchen with a gorgeous Fererro Rocher smell!
Couperwife
But I thought it was a legal requirement to taste the cake mixture before it was cooked if not, im blaming my mum for letting me "clean" the bowl the recipe sounds lovely cathy x
