frogprincess
Hello, How much do you give your chickens of: corn boythingywotsit bran grapes mealworms other treats? I have three chickens and I reckon they'd have a go at the whole 10kg bag of corn if I let them, but right now they get a couple of handfuls most afternoons, about 2 grapes each and a handful of bran. Is that too much? I also give them a handful of mealworms a couple of times a week. Thanks, Lesley
JamesAyres
Very similar to what i give mine. Handful of corn scattered on the grass (between 8 hens) End of the loaf of bread when we get to it. And once a week a nice big vegetable , like a pumpkin or a butternut squash. What you're giving them sounds about right to me.

sandyhas3chucks
mine now have free access to mixed corn. having met someone that was told that was all her ex bats needed and for a year has done as told with treats cooked each afternoon Met another omleteer who had agrub just for mixed corn. AND read about feeding naturally. only speaking from own exp. but mine seem to eat dif things at dif times, even if you feed mash they pick out the bits they want 1st! They either go straight for crushed oyster shell in the norning or the mash, and i hardly have to refill the corn grub in a week. even pin head oats is eaten till had enough of then on to something else. (course they are all dif.) oh I have 2 large ex bats about 2 kg (neither of which are overly fussed about the mixed corn. and 6 more smaller of varying weights. (so they are not over fat on it!) tasha? tight fisted? my mixed corn is approx same cost as my mash???

Yes, I notice that too. In the morning they pick the bits they want from the mash that I give them. Blodwyn prefers pellets to mash, so the mash is mainly for my little brown girls. They FR during the day and eat all kinds of stuff in the garden. In the evening they eat grit from their grit pot, even though they also get grit from the garden. They love mealworms at any time but only get them when it is time to go back in the run! I've followed the suggestion of giving them the option of corn, as they seem to like it sometimes. I'll see how it goes relative to the pellets, which don't get eaten very quickly.
