iandjsmum
Hi Everyone I am really new to this and new to chicken keeping (about 4 weeks) but loving every minute of it. I have 6 pekins, all 8 months old. I'm desperate for one of them to lay an egg. Any idea when we might find one?! Thanks
mrsstewpot
Hello! I am new too! I was very lucky that my chickens arrived on tuesday and one of them is already laying!!!! Reading through the threads it seems that most start laying around 22-25 weeks. Good luck and keep us informed! mrsstewpot x
Jools
Pekins tend to be a law unto themselves. You may be lucky and get a few winter eggs, but they'll probably hang on until spring. Then just when you're enjoying a regularly egg supply, they'll go broody for you and you'll have another wait on your hand.
iandjsmum
Hi Mrsstewpot You are so lucky! I am so jealous. What breed are your chickens? Are they hybrids and did you get them with an eglu? iandjsmum
Christian
Hello iandjsmum and welcome to the forum My next door neighbour got 3 pekins (buff, white and lavender) in the spring and I warned her that they don't lay well in the winter. Well, she is still getting 3 eggs a day and is supplying me as my free loaders aren't doing so well!!! They will lay when they are ready, just a case of waiting I'm afraid. Makes the first egg even more exciting
