batcatz
Hi, I made a warm mash from layers pellets and mixed in veg plus quite a big handfull of crushed eggshells from my silkie, columbian blacktail and speckledy. My columbian blacktail laid an egg today and the shell was slightly speckled and also had a bit of white in it! Has anyone else had this? Christian
Mine often lay slightly different coloured eggs (when they can be bothered to lay ). It is to do with the shell gland and I am convinced that what they eat makes a difference. If they eat lots of greens, the shells have more speckles and are a stronger colour. Might just be my imagination, but it the summer when they have access to more greens from the veggie garden, the eggs are different. Just make sure that the egg shells are washed and baked before you add them to the warming mash.
batcatz
Thanks, yeah most of my eggs are hardboiled, then put in the oven for a few mins when I'm cooking my dinner.
