water in cube- under droppings trays

Recommended Posts

Hi.

I have had my FABULOUS cube for a little over a month- and i doooo love it, BUT..............it this naff weather i have noticed ALOT of water under the droppings trays when i take them out,(trays dry) quite a large puddle towards the pop hole. this has frozen in the sub zero temps and the droppings tray was stuck solid!!

Just wondered if this is normal - it is on my lawn which is a slight slope but not sure how the water is getting in in the first place!!

thanks

intrigued!!

xx

If it's running towards the pophole it sounds as though you have it facing downhill so if you can get it level or slightly tilting back I would think it would cure the problem. So you just have to shift a couple of hundred weight of soil and you'll be fine, or wedge it. :D

Mine slopes slightly downhill but I don't get a lot of water in the bit under the trays.

There is a tiny bit, which is enough to freeze them in when it is very cold, but I think most of that water is coming from the breath of the chickens condensing in the cold air. It really isn't a problem, and the roost area itself, and the nest box, are bone dry, even in really bad weather.
