Eggasperated
My three hens all have distinct egg laying styles; Carol pops into the nest box, lays an egg and is out again in no time; Pippa has virtually no interest in the nest box and can't be bothered to stop what she is doing so 90% of the time just squats where ever she is and lays; but Alice spends an average of three hours sitting in the nest box each time she lays (reading a newspaper?, writing a novel?), which can be really inconvenient at this time of year when I'm waiting to clean them out. Is this normal? She's always done it since she came into lay in October and doesn't seem to have any trouble laying, does she just like the peace and quiet of the nest box? Eggasperated
Glad to hear Alice is normal, although I was quite looking forward to the income from the book I thought she was writing.
Space Chick
I'm sure it would have been an eggcellent book. *I'll get my coat*
Pikey
Depends how long the queue is for the nest box.....Cookie generally goes last and takes ages....you can hear her mooching around and what sounds like giggling to herself.
docsquid
Gwennie takes only a few minutes, but then she is such a nosey chook, I guess she can't bear to miss anything potentially interesting. If anybody laid a random egg in mid lawn, it would be Gwennie. Blodwyn sometimes takes upwards of an hour. I think she likes the peace of the nest box. Megan varies but is usually about 30 minutes or so.
