Fattening Up My Hens!

Recommended Posts

Hello all!

This icy cold weather isn't very good for hens, mine aren't impressed by the snow at all :shameonu: . What I wanted, was to be able to feed them some suitable treats to help fatten them up and keep them warm, but I'm not sure what's safe and what isn't. Is cheese okay for them, because mine love it!

If anyone knows of any good treats for hens in the winter then please let me know, I'm willing to try them on anything :D !

Thanks!

Mine love cheese too! They come running from the end of the garden-I'm sure they can smell it! I dont give them much though and only occasionally as a special treat as i'm not sure how good it is for them either. They are in the kitchen with me now chasing each other round for little pieces of toast i'm throwing down for them! x

Mixed corn is good, I mix mine up with some cod liver oil and water

Some of my chickens are on high energy pigeon mix to keep them in top condition

Wet or even better soaked mixed corn will also keep them hydrated better which is useful when water often freezes over

A little cheese will do no harm
