chocolatedog
Hi folks - I seem to have lost my recent thread about Pepper's sad demise....... just to update those kind folk who posted and offered sympathy, I took her to the vet today for cremation..... anyway, the reason for the new post is that someone recommended a type of mash to maybe try instead of the layers pellets (Dodson and Horrell) which they seem to be going off at present, and I can't remember what the name was..... and another question - with mash, do you serve it up in a bowl or something, or just scatter it over the run? And if the latter, if the girls don't like it or eat it all, will the run become yucky and rat-attracting?!
Patricia W
Have you looked in the chicken memorial thread? Mods may have moved it. I'll bump this up for you as I don't know the answer to the question about mash. So sorry about Pepper Tricia
Redwing
Mash is the name for proper chicken food that has not been formed in to pellets (its not quite the same stuff but that gives you the gist) its sort of different sized bits from powdery to chunky You feed it in the same way as pellets - in a feeder Dont sprinkle it on the floor as no doubt they wont clean it all up and the run will stink and attract rats as you say Some people call pellet porridge (pellets and warm water) 'mash' which confuses the issue, that should also be fed in a bowl or trough
