Ideas on a postcard..............

Recommended Posts

Some of you may remember that at the beginning of last summer I asked for fundraising ideas for my DD to raise £2700 to enable her to go to the Himalayas and Rajasthan to do project work. Well she has virtually made her target and should be there with the two final bag packing days they have left. She rasied £500 from generous friends and neighbours on a sponsored hike last summer, and got a £500 donation from OHs company he works for. When they get round to it we will put their logo on her World Challenge t shirt!!

So now DS has decided to emulate his big sister and is going to Kenya with Camps International in 2011 for 4 weeks to do wildlife and marine conservation and project work, as well as a PADI scuba course in the Indian Ocean. ( Do I wish I was going???........you bet!) So any ideas on fundraising for him to save asking the same generous people to donate?? He wouldnt mind doing a sponsored something but I cant for the life of me think what a 15 year old game playing but reasonably fit boy could do, apart from giving up gaming!!!! Has any on here got any ideas that wont lead to the break out of WWIII?? :?:?

When I had the option to go to China when I was 15 with my school choir and orchestra (21 years ago  ) we had to raise money to go.

Some was done through the school, some we had to do ourselves. For the stuff I did myself, I did odd jobs for people, mainly washing cars, mowing lawns, cleaning (although "inside" work was only through people my parents knew and trusted  ) etc. Also my friend who was going and I did some music recitals through the council, and were also given permission to play music in a shopping centre where people could donate :D Whether those kind of things would be allowed now with Health and Safety who knows

As you're not wild about asking the same people for sponsorship (understandably) the options are a bit more limtied this time round, I guess!

Possibly the best thing for him to do is to try to get a Saturday job of some sort and save up. Maybe you could then speak nicely to the bank to bend the rules so he is made eligible for their highest interest rate savings account even though he almost certainly won't meet the criteria. Or other companies to add £1 for every £10 he saves or whatever (it's surprising how many big companies will sponsor small projects).

I hate asking people to sponsor the children, it is so embarrasing asking the same old people. For small things now I just donate money myself I hate it so much. I always think that the trick is to get people to pay for things that they want or need anyway. My son wanted to buy a new Flugel Horn and made £100 in a couple weeks by selling sweets to kids in school. I have a Cash & Carry card so I bougt the sweets and he sold them out of his bag at breaktimes in school. It was a captive market and often kids would put orders in for bulk packs. Some mornings he had a very heavy rucksack on the way in
