Lavenders_Blue
Poor Rosie has had mucky knicker feathers for a few days now and has even laid a couple of dirty eggs. I suspect this could be as a result of the lice I found on them earlier in the week I thought she might feel a bit better if I gave her a quick knicker wash to get the poo out and even had high hopes for a calm bathtime after reading about how everyone else's chickens love their bath. Well no such luck for me - hubby had to get Rosie in a sort of headlock to stop the squirming and flapping whilst I tried to clean as speedily as I could (not easy when you're working with a moving target!). I had planned to blow dry her afterwards but as she was clearly stressed enough I opted for a good towel dry and pop her back outside seeing as it was sunny. Of course no sooner had she gone outside than it went cold and started to spot with rain, so I thought stress or no stress she had better have a blast from the hairdryer. But Rosie had other ideas and was not going to let this evil woman get anywhere near her! So I had to leave her to it. She has now gone to bed damp and of course I am paranoid that she will catch a chill overnight. I have warmed up a couple of wheat bags (lavender and vanilla, very relaxing ) and popped them into the coop. I watched her manoeuvre herself onto one of them so hopefully she should keep warm until she dries. Please reassure me that she isn't going to expire overnight otherwise it's out to the coop with a torch, dryer and extension lead and a blow dry for all of them! Redwing
She will be fine I am sure, its not ideal but one night with wet knickers wont do her any harm The other option is to bring her in and put her in a box in a warm room for the night
prof
she will come to no harm. my & have gone to bed loads of times absolutely sopping wet the orps are not so stupid (surprisingly!) and shelter when it is throwing it down. infact tonight the & have been out free ranging in the rain ALL DAY and are so wet that looks white as you can see her under feathers. i too was concerned when this first happened, but was reassured on this forum that they would be ok as long as they had no draughts. so i shut the door and tut at them, and they boc boc back not bothered at all
Lavenders_Blue
Thank you for your reassurances! She did have a pretty thorough towel dry so at least she is not sopping wet. I am just being a worry wart!
Gelbel
As others have replied - do not worry! Mine love the rain and often go to bed like drowned rats and I've never had so much as a sneeze.
