help chucks sick

Recommended Posts

I have recently treated one of my three chickens with 'anti feather pecking' spray from Omlet, as she had lost all her feathers on her bottom, so I suspected one of the other two chickens had been pecking her.

After treadting her, the next day one of the other chickens showed the same balding. So, I have now treated her too.

This is there first winter and they are approx 6 months old, one of the chickens also has diarrhea, so I just wanted to know if anyone had any advice or if I should take them to a vets?

Thanks.

Welcome to the forum :D

Feather pecking is a habit they can get into, so using the anti peck spray is a good start. :D

Tea tree oil mixed with water is also good, as it is antiseptic and tastes awful.

With regard to the diarrhoea, have they been wormed at all? It could be a sign that they are due. It could just be that they have eaten lots of greens though!

Thank you very much for your replies.

I have tried the anti pecking spray (Omlte shop) and unfortuately instead of pecking there behinds they have moved to the neck of poor Valerie.

I have checked and they do not have lice, so it can only be down to Shirley pecking her I think. Valerie is now on antibiotics after a visit to the vets and started to perk up, but she is under weight so I think she is being denied food!

So, with the anti pecking spray not working, I am thinking of using 'bumper bits', does anyone have any advice on these or perhaps another solution I could try.

Thanks, Les
