shelley8179
I have 2 Pekin bantams and a d'uccle bantam and over the weekend she was attacked by a cat , luckily I was just on the other side of the door and managed to save her even though she is now inside as her eye got injured. The cat now thinks its great coming into the garden to watch them so no more free ranging for the girls unless im outside with them. Any body got any ideas to keep the cats away, I have 2 cats of my own so it cant be too drastic. I was thinking of getting a couple more bantams but I might get some full size chickens to go with the bantams to put the cats off with the size? shelley8179
No the cats are wimps and ive got a dog but the chickens must be too much of a temptation. Think this is a good argument for a WIR

Patricia W
My bantams ( includes a cockerel) dominate our cat and all the local cats! Phillip the cockerel even has a special call for ours ( not for a family forum me thinks). She runs a mile! I think you're unlucky. suebee
We've got loads of cats round our way. We've also got fencing, which is easy for a cat. However, we've fixed aviary netting to the top of the fence (on the outside) which sticks up, and adds about 8 inches to the height of the fence. The point of it is, cats won't steeplechase over a fence. They have to land on it first. The netting stops them doing so. Finally, (a mile of netting later, and a decidedly fort knox looking garden which appears to be housing a giraffe.....) no more cats! - touch wood! The problem for you I suppose, is your cats wouldn't be able to negotiate it either! There's also a product called 'Get off my garden', which is citrus scented, and you put it in lumps around your boundaries. Again, not so nice for your own cats. Similar products abound, including 'Silent Roar' - made from lion poo, to give out the message... someone much bigger lives here! Dunno how effective they are , and of limited use if you have pussies of your own.
