Treekeeper
What do fellow cubist use in the nest box in the cube? I put newspaper in and then easybed but the chooks just ripped up the paper and all the easybed fell out through the large hole, it wasn't a problem in the eglu
Chook n Boo Mum
At the moment I line the nest boxes with half a pellet sack or similar for extra insulation..........my batties sleep in the nestboxes & I think they deserve the extra "luxury"! As you say they shred the newspaper! In the summer I have a piece of plastic cut from a milk bottle, weighted with nuts & bolts to stop the hemcore from disappearing through the drainage hole.......I'm sure there's a better description somewhere! Space Chick
I use a thin flexible chopping board to cover the nesting box hole and then fill with hemcore
rufusrooster
ive blocked the hole with a piece of thick/dense foam, has been filled with easibed since mid december now, planning to replaced this weekend, i have now been converted to hemp so thats what will be going in next. how much / how deep do you have it ? and how often does everyone replaced the nestbox bedding ? as i said the easibed has been in about 7 weeks now, still clean though, i dont let them sleep in the nest box,
Space Chick
I do a little cheat manoeuvre for easier cleaning. I fill my nesting box up to the entrance hole on my monthly big clean day. Then when I do my weekly poo tray clean and empty, I take hemcore out of the nest box to line the poo trays, so hemcore in the nest box slightly reduces every week and it is easy to sort the poo trays
chick wiggle
Ooo, thats a good idea SC, is there enough in the nest box to fill the poo trays a few times? maybe im filling mine too deeply although I only put a few inches of bedding in them Treekeeper, I must have very good girls indeed, as I use newspaper to line the nestbox with then easibed and they've never touched the paper, little angels
