Bunnyish Posted February 8, 2010 Share Posted February 8, 2010 I got home from work earlier today, so i could check on my new girls before it gets too dark. i only got them sat and so they have been settling in. My other girls were really not impressed with them and the noise of them (well the noise of poppy!!!) she was making sooooo much noise the new girls hide all day in their temp holding coop/pen scared to come out. well when i got in today i went up the garden and the 3 new girls were out in their little run digging about quite happy and the others were in their run digging about quite happy. Other than a few happy clucks because i bought them some warm sweetcorn, they were ignorin the new girls in their run. They are about 2 off meters away from each other but withing view of each other, and i have been letting the old girls free range around the new girls and eye each other up through the wire but not let come into contact. i have read that i shouldnt really mix them until my new girls are laying (they are approx 16 weeks old) Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

I found when they are babies they just don't stand up for themselves so the pecking order never gets sorted, they just run away. When mine came into lay (one at 40 weeks+ ) their behaviour changed so much. So yes I would wait to let them grow up. You can let them mix in the garden when you are ready and see how it goes.
