Fussy Bantams

Recommended Posts

I thought all chickens ate everything! When I was growing up we had lots on our farm and my mother used to put all the table s"Ooops, word censored!"s, peelings and so on into a bucket and we'd give it all to them - they were like compost bins. My wonderful girls won't eat anything, bread crumbs, raisins, all the treats I read about on here I've tried with no luck. They do like those wild bird balls which I've put in some hanging contraptions and the occasional dry mealworm. They've even stopped eating their pellets which are covered in garlic powder, spice and all those things to keep them healthy ......... what am I doing wrong???!!!

I know this isn't what you want to hear, but I'd cut them out altogether until they are back eating their pellets - they need all the proper nutrients to keep them healthy and laying. I like to give my girls treats too, and they are very adept at applying the old blackmail tactics, but they really don't benefit if they don't get their pellets.

Mine can do the same sometimes.

My OH loves to give them treats - so they hold out for them. A few days of nothing but mash and they go back to eating it again without any problems.

Seems harsh - but we can't live on Chocolate alone, and need to eat all the boring stuff too! (I know - I've tried!! )
