bexie08
Hia folks We want to grow veg in are garden as we`ve done for years before having are hens but the girls use the veg plot as dust baths. We've tried fencing them off but they just jump over the fence ! Do you have any ideas ? bexie xx Heti - Black rock Beti - Calder Ranger

suebee
Has the fence got a solid top that they can jump onto, and then down? If so, try adding some wire netting that they can't perch on first, perhaps to an extra foot in height.
emchook
I have omlet netting and I have one chicken that flaps [sometimes climbs with lots of flapping ] onto the top of a pole and than powers herself over .. * very clever but annoying * I have had to resort to garden netting over the top attached to the fence to stop her coming over the top [ currently they have a run down the length of the fence to keep them off the grass ] But in summer, with a larger area, its pretty pointless as then she has a run up !! There is always one naughty one !
Lavenders_Blue
It would require more building work but if your veg plot is not too enormous, could you build a fruit cage so that it would be netted on top and stop your girls jumping in? docsquid
I put up a fence to keep the chickens in one half of the garden yesterday, to try and reduce the amount of mud finding its way onto the paths, and to keep them off the daffodils that are coming through, and off the herb bed to let it recover and grow during the Spring. Today, Gwennie managed to fly over the fence in one go. Omlet 4ft netting, properly installed, and she just flew over it. The other two can't fly as well (Blodwyn can't fly at all), but Gwennie, despite having clipped wings, is a veritable eagle of a chicken!
