Little Clucker
Does anyone has chickens who hide their eggs in the nest box? I've been collecting 2-3 eggs from the girls daily and this afternoon I spotted somthing under the hay... Out came 13 eggs! I only have 3 hens and they must have been squeezing out some extra ones and salting them away for later! Has this happened to people before? i had only missed last night's collection as I didn't get home til 11pm so didn't have the energy to grab them, but very much doubt they laid that many overnight! ladyjulian
One of mine is a hider - I found a hidden egg when I cleaned out the next box. Is it a huge solid poo? No, it's an egg! Now I check any suspiciously large clumps of straw, which usually have an egg hidden in the middle.

Little Clucker
Hmm maybe they're trying to hide them so they can have a fry up after I go to work? Either that or the rabbits are laying eggs now too in preparation for Easter!
Diana1
I thought my hens had stopped laying until the window cleaner noticed that there were eggs behind the water butt. 17 in total I checked them all for freshness and they were all fine - fabulous. I then had to get them to lay in the nesting box again by keeping them in until they'd layed.
