art12345
Bought easi bed last weekend and the chickens love it scratching arround. Our run is covered and basically open on one side so when it rains there is a lot of dry space for the chickens but some water does sweep in. So i have a band of easi bed that is damp along the edge. i dont want to cover the run any more but should i do something about the damp easy bed? ie replace it, mix it in with the dry or just leave it alone. What do you think?
sjp
I use easibed in my run it's damp most of the time at the moment but my lot turn it over nearly every day so when it gets a bit of sun on it it soon dries out just watch for mould in the middle if it's not turned over very often.if you want your girls to turn it over just throw a bit of grain in it they'll soon move it about looking for treats
Laura & CTB
A couple of edge bits round my WIR get wet - not surprising after the torrential rain we've just had I usually leave it until we're expecting a dry spell and change the damp bits then. I also use Stalosan on the slabs underneath to keep it disinfected.
Carol U
With all the rain and snow we've had lately my w.i.r., which has one solid wall, seemed to be permanently damp. My solution was to buy some Ikea clear plastic shower curtains and staple them around the top. When it's dry I roll them up (like blinds) and tie them with garden string and when it's wet I let all or just some of them down (depending on the direction of the rain/snow) and clip them to the wire with little bulldog clips. It works a treat and also keeps them warmer as it keeps the wind off too.

Will do this now
