Gamebird
Prevention is always better than cure. I have had a wooden ark for two years now and as yet (touches wood) have have not had any red mite. However, I spray my coop thoroughly with Poultry Shield every week and sprinkle Diatom in the nest box.
Redwing
However, I spray my coop thoroughly with Poultry Shield every week and sprinkle Diatom in the nest box. I agree with this - prevention is the best way I have had a couple of outbreaks of red mite and they were hard to eradicate, at one point they were in my house and sofa makes me itch just thinking about it they are certainly increased in numbers in the summer when its warm but are about in winter too

The Dogmother
I'm another one for prevention... I clean and spray the housing with nettex's total mite kill stuff, and then sprinkle it all with an anti-louse/mite powder that contains permethrin. Seems to do the trick
