Space Chick
Today Nyssa has been under the weather. She came into lay on Tuesday (late starter she is just over a year old) and is part way through a Flubenvet treatment, started Monday. She has been hunched up, as if a softie is on its way, but has also been keeping her beak open part of the time, and when she went to run she was off balance and feel over, twice. I have given her a good look over, her crop feels fine, her vent looks fine. I should also mention that she has been insisting on sleeping on the perch in the run overnight. Her appetite is fine, went crazy over some mealworms and is drinking well aswell. I am going to keep an eye on her for a day or two, as my instinct says its probably a softie, but the fact that she fell over and has been keeping her beak open makes me concerned it could be something more sinister, so I thought I would post for a second opinion. As she is a privately hatched girl I am concerned it could be Mareks disease as she hasn't been vaccinated, but then I don't know if I am being an overly panicky chook mum. Thanks Guys

chelsea
I don't know either - sounds like you're doing everything right to me It has been known in the past that an ear infection can cause balance problems.... Just keep an eye on her as I am sure you will.
