I have recently bought a Cube, no run, to go in my WIR. The WIR isn't covered other than by netting. With my wooden ark, I could leave the ramp down so they could come and go as they pleased ... but with the cube, if I leave the door open, there's no protection from the wind or rain.

Any ideas or suggestions? Covering the WIR isn't practical. What does anyone else do?

I've written to Omlet to suggest an optional extended roof panel that would act a a porch ... but I need to come up with something before we go on holiday and leave them to house-sitters for a few days ... they're not going to want to get up at first light to let the girls out!

Cold you rig up something with an Omlet shade involving tent pegs? I'm thinking of the shade as its a triangle so two ends could be attached to the cbe (string or cable ties through panel joins or air holes) and then one end down to the ground, over to a stake (or up to the roof netting)

Or how about a length of corrugate plastic, one long end across the roof (weighed down) and other two corners supported by stakes/legs

We have a cube without a run but luckily it is under trees so it's always fairly dry. However, when it is really wet, they go under the cube. I've put some pieces of wood around the back and the sides so it's really dry and cosy under there. That's where they dustbath as well.

They also have access to a covered eglu run ( spare at the moment) and have shelter elsewhere in the garden if they want it.

For now, I've put some strips of heavy duty plastic (butyl pond liner!) in a curtain across the door. Doesn't look pretty, but I think it's working - they are taking some getting used to going in and out, but putting a torch on in there at night helped last night ... and once one went in to lay this morning a couple of others followed.

But in the long term (when I have some spending money) some sort of canopy sounds good.
