Herbal Life - anyone tried

Recommended Posts

Lesley has used a plan, which can't remember what it's called - look in Healthy eating chat - which has quite a high weight loss initially (no carbs though) and she is doing well on it, but think Docsquid mentionned somewhere that a high weight loss rate is usually of muscle/water and not the fat you want to lose. :(

Yes, that's right. Quick weight loss will almost always result in regain of more weight than you lost in the first place, as you will lose mainly muscle and water and not fat.

The only way to do it is to take more exercise and eat a healthy balanced diet. Meal replacements worked less well than other types of diet that restrict energy intake in the comparative trial done for the BBC but published in the British Medical Journal - the reason being that they don't lead to long-term habit change.

The best way to lose weight is not to "diet". If you go on a diet you tend to think it is temporary. It isn't. You must think in terms of a permanent lifestyle change. The weight goes on over a period of years, so you should think in terms of months to years to lose it too.

I started following the Harcombe Diet - wish she'd call it a food plan instead

It has a 5 day initial phase which is a good kickstart and then phase 2 while you slowly lose weight. It is based on food combining though and isn't for everyone, fats and carbs but not together.

I've had a break for a while as I found that difficult but have stayed the same weight by being careful and thinking about what I was eating.

Dont go near it. Pyramid selling Company, which rather says it all..

Pryamd selling isn't legal in this country. Herbalife are a multi level marketnig company and are members of the direct selling association so they are totally above board. I don't know anyhting about there products though as I don't know anytone whose ever used them.

Multi-level marketing is effectively, slightly tweaked pyramid selling.

It's just expensive snake oil quackery.

Far better to listen to our aunty Docsquid, or join a group like Slimming World or Weight Watchers. :D

Good plan fluffyknickers, if something sounds too good to be true, it usually is.

REgarding pyramid selling and multi level marketing, they are quite different. MLM is about selling products and earning money from your own sales or from sales of those people you have introduced to the business. Its perfectly legal and Amway is another example of a MLM company, as is Herbalife.

Pyramid selling is quite different as its purely about people investing money and making money from other people investing money. These schemes are unsustainable and its quite right that pyramod selling is illegal.

I went to a seminar about Herbalife as part of a training week - the 'seminar' was actually an hour-long advertisement to a captive audience.

I had two questions: one was about the multi level marketing, and the other was a bit more serious - a journal piece found a link between using Herbalife products and liver problems (see here).

The seminar facilitator wouldn't answer either question save to assure me that Herbalife is safe, which didn't reassure me all that much.

Having said that, I did try one of their recovery shakes and it was quite tasty compared to other products.
