Chic Chick Posted March 26, 2010 Share Posted March 26, 2010 I am going to be keeping chickens in a coop and run on a permanent site. What is the best type of bedding to use in the run? Egluntyne Posted March 26, 2010 Share Posted March 26, 2010 Definitely not straw or hay. They get slimy and can harbour parasites, and cause crop problems if the hen eats them. Bark can carry mould spores and gets very slimy and smelly. Many of us swear by Hemcore or Aubiose. Very similar to each other , and sold as horse bedding. The hens love to rootle about in it.
