Help ASAP? Chicken not layed in 5-6 days..

Recommended Posts

Hi all.

My Pekin bantam Stacey Dear has not laid a egg in 5-6 days..

We rang the vets up, they said they dont specialize in birds & if she is acting wierd.. kill her.. ;/.. We thought she had a egg stuck at first, we phoned the breeder that we got her from and asked, he said she might have a egg suck and put her in warm water for half an hour, and the egg will pop out, we did this and still no egg (a very clean chicken, though) She doesn't feel hard at all and i cant feel a egg, she looks overall very happy now, and is eating and drinking fine, but the 2nd day she didn't lay a egg she keeps visiting the nesting box, and well just .. lying there, but no sound of a egg?She is a very loud girl but does not seem to be singing like she usually does. All the rest of my girls are producing eggs, she started laying on the 15th of march if this helps.. Thankyou. :)

Hi I have exactly same problem, bought my bantams in December so not very old and have had some lovely eggs till a week or so ago but they both spend all day on the nest in their eglu (not moving to let the marans in to lay) I googled the problem and the answer I got was that bantams go broody at the drop of a hat! So all I can think is they have gone broody. I do lift mine out in the morning so that they can eat and then they go back in to the nest. They are both healthy (i have checked them). Has anyone else had this problem?

You'll need to stop them sitting, try shutting the coop door so they cant sit on the nest, chances are they wont be laying if they are broody anyway so there is no harm done as long as they ahve shade and shelter during the day

If they sit and sit they will start to lose weight and condition even if they are eating once a day
